Wii Fit Plus

01.07.10

Tonight after we put the baby to bed, D and I played some Wii Fit Plus.  I went first and played for about 45 minutes it was a lot of fun!

First I did rhythm boxing for 15 minutes and then I did step aerobics for another 15 minutes and then I did a round of my favorite myths kung foo and a little segway and finished with juggling.

I am sweating a little bit and I think it’s good to be active but I don’t think I would consider it a REAL workout.  But it can’t hurt right?

The Biggest Loser Wii game

01.05.10

One of my presents this year was The Biggest Loser Video game for the Wii it had gotten great reviews on Amazon and so yesterday while Xander was down for his first nap I popped it in to see how it was.

First you make a profile and weight yourself and then you choose a contestant from short list of previous season winners to be, like maybe 5 choices. You tell it what your goals are and then you get to choose your work out.

I really like how many workouts it had on there, they ranged in time from 6 minutes to an hour. It also varied in intestacy from light to intense four different levels.

I chose to do 6 minute warm up and a 28 minute light full body workout with a 8 minute cool down. It said I burned total 52 calories. But today I can feel it in my muscles and I have to say I’m impressed!

The downsides for me was there was no music and the trainer kept saying the same few phrases over and over again. I am hoping to do a challenge with D tonight so we will see how that is going to go.

Crazy Busy Life

12.22.09

I have been neglecting my job duties as a blogger. And unlike last year at this time I don’t really have a good excuse. Just busy like everyone else this time of year.

I have continued to do well on South Beach Diet although I am starting to stray a little as the temptations of the season become more and more of a reality. My current weight is 170.6! Which is great for me although I was really hoping to be 167 before Christmas Eve.  The important part is I came really close to my goal and who knows maybe ( I doubt it) it will still happen I mean we do have two days.

Xander will be one on Christmas eve and we are really excited, I would like for Dave to get the swingset up and ready to use in the backyard for his birthday I would like for him to be able to play on it.  We also went out and bought him three presents to open; one on his birthday and two Christmas morning.

On Christmas morning we will be going to my grandpa’s house in PA, it will be Xander’s first flight and I am nervous about packing and just the trip not about actual flying.  I am also nervous because I have made so much progress in the weight department I don’t want to be totally sabotaged by a trip out of town.  My parents are going to so I’m sure if I bring my workout clothes my mom will want to workout with me. I have been trying to formulate a plan for while I am away, knowing that I won’t have access to a large variety of South Beach foods.  I think that my best plan would be to be calorie conscious sticking to around 1800 or less a day and not expect to loss but hope to not gain.  Which means I should bring along my laptop and log in to track my food every day.  I will also try to plan out what I’m going to eat ahead of time as much as possible so I am not surprised and I have a estimate of how many calories things are.

So my health Christmas goals are as follows:

  • Have a good time
  • Work out at least 30 minutes per day
  • Don’t over indulge- 1800 calories per day
  • Drink lots of water- Drink little wine

What are you health goals this Holiday Season?

Body After Baby: Week 7 of 8

10.07.09

This post is a day late because we had a bad day yesterday with our asshole doctor, I think I want to start looking for a new doctor but that’s a whole other story all together.

So I did great in the second week of the Body After Baby challenge that is hosted by Mama Notes. This week’s challenge was to drink water and for each glass of water you drank you earned points up to 8 points a day, well this was an easy one for me because I love water it’s almost the only thing I drink so I got 8 points ever day this week for a total of 56 points.

Weight wise I didn’t do that great I didn’t gain but I staid the same.  I did however run a 5k, when I say run I mean it in the loosest sence of the word I usually run 55% walk 45% but this 5k I ran at least 70% and walked 30% and it felt great! It was a family affair as Dave ran it with Xander in the jogging stroller and my parents both did it, my mom is a better runner than I am but my dad it’s really and exerciser and we all finished in under an hour!  I am so proud of everyone.

So this weeks Body After Baby challenge is walking!  I am super excited about this one I am going to try to walk around the neighborhood at lunch every day for at least 15 minutes plus my normal gym time on Friday, Saturday and Monday.  In addition to this new exercise I am going to be very careful about what I eat this week aiming for a catch up for this week indiscretions and hoping to weigh in at 176 a two pound loss for this week.

Body After Baby: Week One

09.30.09

So I am doing the Body after Baby Challenge posted over at Mama Notes.  This challenge is also going to go along with my personal Biggest Loser challenge of losing one pound a week the entire season of biggest loser.

I posted my starting stats last week. I won’t be measuring myself every week I’ll just measure again at the end but my weight this week is 178.4! Which is just .2lbs away from he having lost a total of 40lbs since having Xander last Christmas!

This week’s challenge is to give yourself a point for every glass of water you drink, yesterday I drank 5 glasses of water. So 5 points, I am keeping track on my calendar and will add them up at the end.

Vacation’s over

08.19.09

I just got back from one of the best vacations I have ever had, it was relaxing and reminiscent of my childhood and I got to share one of my favorite places in the world with my husband and baby.  Not to mention spend three days alone with my mom and grandma enjoying the conversation and companionship.

xander and mom canadaI swam and hiked and carried my sweet little baby around on my back everyday, and I was hoping this wouldn’t be like most vacations I have taken in the past where I come back 5lbs or more heavier.  I really felt like for the most part I was making good food decisions and I was way more active than I am at home generally.  Well it all paid off, when I got home I was 181.  Not to bad for being on vacation for a full 8 days.

It felt great to come back from a trip and not be for me what is weeks or a month behind when I left.  Also as an update D is also started counting calories so I am aiming to keep track at least 6 days a week and I lowered my calorie target to 1700. Hopefully I’ll start seeing the numbers slide, I just have such a hard time looking at myself in the mirror at this weight.

I am going to jump back into the body after baby challenge this week, mamanotes wrote a great piece on staying fit on vacation that everyone should read.

Body After Baby

07.07.09

So I weighed in today, which is a bit early for me so I might update my weight tomorrow and I was 181.2 and in my defense I had popcorn last night before bed which makes me retain water.

As for the challenge this last week:

  • I did make it to the gym on Friday and Monday as well as being active the rest of the weekend.
  • But I didn’t reach my second goal of continuing to eat healthy, I had three slices of key lime pie this weekend and counteless other goodies

But for this week I’m am determined to hit that 179!!!  So that is the goal this week 179.

Also on a side note; D and I plus the big family are contemplating going to St. Thomas for my MIL birthday in May that is 10 months from now if I were to loose 3lbs a month for those 10 months that would be 30lbs total putting me at 149 for the trip.  So this is a good long term goal to keep in mind when I’m kickin ass and takin names this week in the weigh loss depatment.

On the host blog for Body after Baby, Mama Notes‘ was talking about transforming our bodies and that has always been something I believe in fully.  That a strong fitness routine and a low salt content can make 180 look like 160 and 160 look like 145.  Since joining the gym in April I have been going three times a week and I should start doing measurments instead of just weights now that I’m in the swing of things.  It’s really amazing how you can transform your body with out losing a single pound by lifting weights.  Over on the blog Domestic Dork, Holly is going to be doing this 10 minute work out and I think this would be a great circuit for me on the days I’m not able to go to the gym.

Body After Baby Challenge: Week 6

06.11.09

Todays check in is a little late but better than never, right.  I got on the scale this morning and weighted in at 182.4 that’s right the lowest weight since before having Xander!  I have been able to be focused this week and I am very proud of myself for all the great effort I put in.  I have visited the gym three times this week and took a long walk on one day that I didn’t visit the gym.  I have keept my food journal at least 5 days last week and I have been good keeping it so far this week as well.  So like many have always said hard work does pay off and I am starting to move the scale.

For me I think it’s a balance that has to happen where I have several high calorie days and several low calorie days, if I go all low or all higher nothing really happens for me but if I cycle my body keeps guessing and I see some movement.  It’s all really just a guess for me some weeks I stick to it and it happens and some weeks it doesn’t happen.

This week I’ll be starting a Pilate class on Wednesday night and hopefully it will totally kick my ass and make me much leaner!

Goals for this week:

  1. Track food consumption 5 days, with one high calorie day (2800 < 2300) and two low calorie day (1500>1800)
  2. Do abs every day
  3. Go to the gym on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Wednesday

The Body After Baby Challenge has been great for me so far and I hope all you other mamas are going at least as good as I am if not better!  Please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know how it’s going today and this week.

Long Short Week

05.28.09

For some reason and correct me if I’m wrong about this but it’s been a hard week for the Body After Baby challenge!  I have tracked my calories every day but I am going over by like 200-300 calories a day and I haven’t done any ab work since last week.

Today I am going to work on having a LOW calorie day and follow it up tomarrow with some time in the gym.  Wish me luck, I could use some kind of weight loss really I could.

The scale has been the same for at least two months now, I just can’t seem to stick to it UGH it’s so fustrating I just need to do it already.

Anyone else having a hard time sticking to it?

Body After Baby Challenge: Week 4

05.26.09

I am going to do my update today and just edit the weight part of it on Wednesday/Thursday.

This week I stuck to almost none of my goals, I didn’t track my food all week and I only went to the gym twice.  But it’s not all lost I did make the best food choices possible when eating out, which was a lot.

Here’s the story so everything was going along as planned until Saturday when my husband decided that we or more he was going to repaint our living room and kitchen this weekend.  This meant that I could have no help watching the baby and my kitchen was now out of commission and I couldn’t make food there.  So Friday I made it to the gym and had a good lower body workout with abs and cardio.  Xander was feeling sad and they came and got me just before I was done. Saturday, I also made it to the gym and did a good cardio workout with abs.  Sunday no gym, and I tried to help with the house but Xander cried almost all day.  I think he is starting to teeth and with the house being all torn up there was nowhere he could play or hang out with mom and it was just lots of tears.  We went to Target for some Huggies and breast milk storage bags, and tried to go walk/play at the park but he made it about 1/3 of a mile before he was crying and screaming.  Then on Monday we took him to my mother in laws and she watched him all day while D and I finished up with the help of our friend S, then we went for Chinese buffet, yes I know bad choice.  In my defense they do have sushi and the only Chinese food I really like is the Chinese donuts.

So Tuesday morning I go to hop on the scale thinking after the Chinese yesterday and Wendy’s all this weekend and just eating like crap in general I’m going to see some sad sad numbers, but oh no it says 183.6!

So now on to Body after Baby week 5 goals:

  1. Eat clean everyday, write everything down
  2. Go to the gym 4 times; Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday
  3. Do abs everyday
